Attorney Rick Coad has successfully represented doctors in disciplinary proceedings by the Medical Examining Board. He has also defended the licenses of nurses in actions taken by DSPS and the Board of Nursing. DSPS is responsible for ensuring license compliance and standards of conduct for a variety of professional licenses, including physicians, nursing, pharmacy and pharmacists, real estate, and social workers, among many other professions that require licensure. Often times, these matters begin with an investigation. The initial investigation may result in a finding of no responsibility, or it may result in a warning. If the investigation results in an accusation of more serious misconduct, then DSPS may initiate a formal complaint against the license holder and begin a formal proceeding to take action against the license. Even in these instances, there is the ability to negotiate an outcome that is favorable to the client. Other times, the proceedings go all the way to a fact-finding hearing and formal disciplinary action.
Rick also serves as counsel for criminal defense lawyers who face disciplinary investigations by the Office of Lawyer Regulation. He focuses his practice in this area on representing criminal defense lawyers accused of violating the rules of professional conduct.
